Sláinte! Tour of Ireland
Join musicians John Lowell & Joanne Gardner Lowell as they explore Ireland’s West Coast. They will be joined by three amazing special guests from Ireland along the way for a private musical evening.
The tour will include visits to traditional pubs in various locations. If you would like to bring along an instrument to join in a jam, please let us know. If you plan to carry a vintage instrument, please remember there are some restrictions with older guitars – be wary of bringing protected woods in an instrument. John will be available to discuss if you have concerns.

Air Travel: This tour is being offered without air travel, you must make your own flight arrangements. Please plan to be at Shannon airport to meet the driver and join this tour at 10.30am on April 27th. At the conclusion of the tour, you may utilize transportation to the Shannon Airport with the group, book return flights for departure after 11.30am. Please provide flight details as early as possible to Isle Inn Tours. If you need assistance with air travel, please contact us and we would be happy to assist you.
Our Itinerary
Departure Day – Sunday, 26 April
Depart the US for Shannon.
Day 1 – Monday, 27 April – After landing at Shannon Airport, pass through customs and immigration. The group will meet at Shannon Airport where we will be welcomed by our hosts John Lowell and Joanne Gardner- Lowell along with our coach driver. Stop for a light lunch on route. Arrive in the lovely town of Dingle and check into our hotel overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Time to relax before meeting your fellow travelers for dinner at our hotel.
Overnight Skellig Hotel, Dingle (L, D)
Day 2 – Tuesday, 28 April – After breakfast travel along the Dingle Peninsula, delight in the stunning views of the Slieve Mish Mountains, the shoreline of Dingle Bay and the open Atlantic Ocean. Near Slea Head, Ireland’s Westernmost point, we will be able to see the Blasket Islands offshore. See the fascinating Beehive Huts known in Irish as “clocháin”, these dry-stone structures were built by monks or hermits between the 6th and 12th centuries without the use of mortar. Return to Dingle town with some free time to explore on our own. You will find many interesting shops and cafes and world-famous ice cream. Return to the hotel for dinner. For those who are so inclined, Dingle has some of the best traditional music played in the pubs. After dinner we will wander down to find one and join in the fun.

Day 3 – Wednesday, 29 April – This morning we will visit Killarney and enjoy a Jaunting car ride into the National Park and onto Ross Castle. Take a ferry across the Shannon and continue north to the lovely town of Doolin. Enjoy a cruise along The Cliffs of Moher one of Ireland’s most breathtaking natural attractions. Viewing them from boat offers a unique perspective. Named after the ancient Gaelic word “Mhothair” (meaning ruined fort), these majestic cliffs rise to an impressive 700 feet. Continue onto Galway City. A special musical guest will join John and Joanne for a private night of music at our hotel after dinner. Those with instruments are always welcome to join in for a jam afterwards.

Day 4 – Thursday, 30 April – This morning enjoy a walking tour of Galway City otherwise know as ‘the city of the tribes’ with local man Brian Nolan. The remainder of the day is free to explore the city on foot. Venture into the Latin Quarter, explore the Galway City Museum and see the Spanish Arch. Perhaps take a stroll along the prom in Salthill overlooking Galway Bay. Dinner on your own this evening. Meet your fellow travelers for an evening on the town exploring the Galway pub scene.

Day 5 – Friday, 1 May – Today we will take a cruise from Oughterard to Cong. Experience stunning views of the Connemara mountains and Lough Corrib’s 365 islands. Stop on Inchagoill Island for a guided tour at St. Patrick’s monastic site which dates back to the 5th century. Continue our cruise onto Ashford Castle in Cong. Enjoy the beautiful grounds of Ashford Castle, former summer home of the Guinness Family. A short stroll into the village of Cong famous as the location of John Ford’s 1951 classic Hollywood movie “The Quiet Man”. Time for lunch on our own before continuing onto the lovely town of Westport. After dinner at the hotel, we’ll be joined by another very special musical guest.

Day 6 – Saturday, 2 May – Today picturesque touring in the Northwest. Starting at Clew Bay, reputed to have 365 islands, continue via Newport and across the Curraun Peninsula to reach Achill Island. Travel along the Atlantic drive to capture scenic views of steeply sloped mountains plunging into the Atlantic Ocean. See the Deserted Village, home to the remains of nearly 100 abandoned stone cottages. Dinner on your own this evening and if you’re inclined, you can join us at Matt Malloy’s pub, which features the finest in touring Irish musicians.

Day 7 – Sunday, 3 May – This morning we will travel south to the lovely town of Ennis in County Clare. Stop en route at Bunratty Castle & Folk Park. The site on which Bunratty Castle stands was originally a Viking trading camp in 970. It is the most complete and authentic medieval castle in Ireland with construction completed in 1425AD. The present structure is the last of four castles to be built on the site. The park features 30 buildings in a “living” village and rural setting. From a fine Georgian House built 1804 to rural farmhouses. Arrive in Ennis in the late afternoon. Some time to explore from your centrally located hotel. Overnight Old Ground Hotel, Ennis (B, D)
Day 8 – Monday, 4 May – SLAN ABHAILE (SAFE TRAVELS HOME) I hope you have enjoyed your time in Ireland exploring Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way. A transfer will be available to Shannon Airport. (Time TBA) Arrive at Shannon Airport with plenty of time to clear customs and immigration. There is a wonderful selection of duty-free shopping available at the airport for any last-minute gifts. (B)
