Our Itinerary
Departure Day
Sunday, October 11
Depart the USA on your overnight flight to Ireland. Get Plenty of sleep. This is gonna be a good one!
Day1
Monday, October 12
We meet our driver/guide, Corkman Lesley Daunt, board our luxury coach and head west to the wild and wonderful region known as Connemara. Stop for tea/coffee and scones along the way. Some time to relax after check-in before meeting your fellow travelers for dinner.
Overnight: Abbeyglen Castle Hotel, Clifden (B, D)
Day 2
Tuesday, October 13
First – breakfast! Then we’ll enjoy a cruise on Ireland’s only fjord, located in Killary, extending 10 miles in from the Atlantic, and forming the border between Galway and Mayo, with some of the most gorgeous scenery in Ireland. Next stop will visit the Connemara History & Heritage Center which offers a unique insight into the history and heritage of this beautiful part of the West of Ireland. See how turf (peat) is cut and sample a drop of ‘poitín’ (moonshine for you Yanks!). Mr. Kennedy will regale you after dinner with some songs from this lovely part of Ireland. The Queen Of Connemara, or the Connemara Cradle song, perhaps?
Overnight: Abbeyglen Castle Hotel, Clifden (B, D)
Day 3
Wednesday, October 14
This morning travel south to the lovely town of Dingle. Stop en-route at Bunratty Castle & Folk Park. It is the most complete and authentic medieval castle in Ireland with construction completed in 1425AD. The park features 30 buildings in a “living” village and rural setting. Onward into the beautiful county of Kerry. After dinner, a few Kerry songs from himself and some musical colleagues.
Overnight: Dingle Skellig, Dingle (B, D)
Day 4
Thursday, October 15
Another breakfast, and today we travel along the Dingle Peninsula to delight in the stunning views of the Slieve Mish Mountains, the shoreline of Dingle Bay and the open Atlantic Ocean. Near Slea Head, Ireland’s Westernmost point, we will be able to see the Blasket Islands offshore, and possibly America… Return to Dingle and dinner will be at our hotel. Who knows what musical interlude Seamus has planned for this evening? But it will be fun!
Overnight: Dingle Skellig, Dingle (B)
Day 5
Friday, October 16
A hearty “Full Irish” breakfast, then we travel the short distance to the lovely town of Killarney. Some free time here to do a bit of shopping, see the Lakes, or maybe take a jaunting car ride over to Ross Castle in the National Park. Next stop, the world-famous Blarney Castle in Co. Cork. You may climb to the top and kiss the stone if you would like to receive the ‘gift of the gab’. Enjoy walking the grounds, a little shopping or have a pint in the pub.
Overnight Trident Hotel, Kinsale (B, D)
Day 6
Saturday, October 17
Today travel along the beautiful West Cork coastline to Mizen Head, the most southerly point in Ireland with its breathtaking cliffs. Mizen has attracted people through the millennia, evident in its fine archaeological discoveries. Stop in Clonakility for some free time to explore this lovely town and enjoy some lunch.
Overnight: Overnight Trident Hotel, Kinsale (B)
Day 7
Sunday, October 18
After breakfast travel to Cobh for a guided walking tour – this harbor town was the last port of call for the Titanic in 1912 and was also the main point of embarkation for Irish emigrants between 1848 and 1960. After some free time in Cobh for lunch we will travel to An Rinn a Gaeltacht (Irish speaking area) just west of Dungarvan and overlooking the Harbour and Muggort’s Bay. Stop into a local pub for a music session. Arrive in Waterford. Your hotel is in the center of town overlooking the harbor.
Overnight: Dooleys Hotel, Waterford (B, D)
Day 8
Monday, October 19
This morning we will visit the Viking Museum. For a hundred years, Vikings in their swift longships raided the monasteries and settlements of Ireland, taking slaves and treasure. Experience in virtual reality these raiders and town builders and international traders. A little free time for lunch and then onto the Blackwater Distillery for a guided tour and tasting of their gin and whiskey.
Overnight: Dooleys Hotel, Waterford (B, D)
Day 9
Tuesday, October 20
Today visit Glendalough, a valley in the beautiful Wicklow Mountains. See the picturesque ruins of the ancient monastery there; it thrived for centuries after being established by St. Kevin in the sixth century. See stone churches, large carved Celtic crosses and an iconic round tower. Arrive at Killashee with time to relax or enjoy the spa. (pre-booking advised for treatments)
Overnight: Killashee Hotel, Kildare (B, D)
Day 10
Wednesday, October 21
After breakfast depart for Dublin Airport where you’ll clear US Customs and Immigration in time for a little last-minute Duty-Free shopping. You’ll arrive back in the U.S. as a “domestic” passenger making it convenient to connect to an onward flight or to exit the airport with ease. Slán abhaile! – Safe home! And Go raibh maith agat! Thank you! (B)
