Thursday, October 10th

Meet a local guide this morning for a walking tour and enjoy some local treats along the way. Board our coach to see some of the most picturesque touring in the Northwest.  Starting at Clew Bay, reputed to have 365 islands, continue via Newport and across the Curraun Peninsula to reach Achill Island.  Travel along the Atlantic drive to capture scenic views of steeply sloped mountains plunging into the Atlantic Ocean. See the Deserted Village, home to the remains of nearly 100 abandoned stone cottages.

Overnight: Plaza Hotel, Westport (B, D)

Friday, October 11th

As we travel north to Donegal, we will pause near the site of W. B. Yeats’s gravesite under the shadow of Ben Bulben for a few words about Ireland’s national poet. Next stop Donegal Castle which was built in the fifteenth century. It is located in the very heart of the town, towering over the River Eske and was once the principle residence of the O’Donnells one of the leading Gaelic Clans.

Saturday, October 12th

This morning visit Slieve League and experience a view that is guaranteed to take our breath away. A sheer drop of roughly 2,000 feet separates the Atlantic Ocean from the highest point of the cliffs, much higher than the better known Cliffs of Moher.  Our next stop will be the Triona Design Center in Ardara. See the tweed making process from start to finish.

Overnight: Abbey Hotel, Donegal (B, D)

Sunday, October 13th

Today we will visit Derry where a local guide will take us on a walking tour of its medieval city walls. Overnight: City Hotel, Derry (B, D)

Monday, October 14th

After breakfast drive north to the beautiful Antrim coast.  After a brief photo stop at the Carrick-a-Rede rope bridge it’s on to the Giant’s Causeway. After a short audiovisual presentation, we will have an opportunity to walk down and view the spectacular hexagonal volcanic basalt columns.  Learn about the mythical giant Finn McCool, who created the Causeway. There is a jitney bus which will take those who wish down to the Causeway and back; it can be a tough walk back. Return to Derry.

Overnight: City Hotel, Derry (B)

Tuesday, October 15th
