29 April – Depart Dublin at 11.35am and arrive in Chicago (ORD) at 2.05pm

If you book your own airfare, please plan to be at Dublin airport to meet the driver and join this tour at 10am on April 22nd. At the conclusion of the tour, you may utilize transportation to the Dublin Airport with the group, book return flights for departure after 11.30am.

Our Itinerary
April 21 – Depart US for your overnight flight to Ireland if you do not take advantage of the pre-night hotel package.
April 22 – After landing at Dublin Airport, pass through customs and immigration. The group will meet at Dublin Airport. Our driver/guide Lesley Daunt will be there to meet us. Continue on to Powerscourt House & Gardens situated at the foothills of the Wicklow Mountains. Step inside and explore the magnificent 47-acre gardens, voted one of the best gardens in the World. Marvel at the sublime blend of formal gardens, sweeping terraces, secret hollows and rambling walks. There will be some time for shopping in the Avoca store before having a light lunch in the café overlooking the beautiful grounds. Relax and enjoy the rest of the day in Kilkenny before joining your fellow travelers for a welcome dinner tonight at your hotel. We will have local musicians join us tonight after dinner.

April 23 – This morning visit Kilkenny Castle built in the twelfth century and the principal seat of the Butlers, earls, marquesses and dukes of Ormond for almost 600 years. The castle, set in extensive parkland, was remodeled in Victorian times. Then to Smithwicks Brewery, to learn about the brewing process, the history of this famous family, and enjoy a sample of their amber ale. This afternoon is free to explore this medieval city. You might explore the ‘Royal Mile’, visit the Kilkenny Design Center to see local artists at work or enjoy a quiet pint in one of Kilkenny’s many fine pubs.

April 24 – Depart Kilkenny after breakfast. Our first stop today will be Clonmacnoise, an early Christian site founded by St. Ciarán in the mid-6th century on the banks of the River Shannon. The long and varied history of Clonmacnoise is recounted in an audiovisual presentation. Arrive in Galway in the afternoon. Some free time for golf at a local course or a walk on the prom. We will have some local musicians join us after dinner tonight.

April 25 – Today enjoy a walking tour of Galway City otherwise known as ‘the city of the tribes’ with local man Brian Nolan. The remainder of the day is free to explore the city on foot. Venture into the Latin Quarter, explore the Galway City Museum and see the Spanish Arch. Perhaps take a stroll along the prom in Salthill overlooking Galway Bay. Meet your fellow travelers for an evening on the town exploring the Galway pub scene.

April 26 – This morning travel west into the wild and wonderful Connemara region. Enjoy the stunning landscapes of lakes, mountains, and bogs. First stop the Connemara History & Heritage Center which offers a unique insight into the history and heritage of this beautiful part of the West of Ireland. See how turf (peat) is cut and sample a drop of ‘poitín’. Continue through Connemara with its lakes, mountains and breathtaking coastal scenery. Enjoy a cruise on Ireland’s only fjord, located in Killary, extending 10 miles in from the Atlantic, and forming the border between Galway and Mayo, with some of the most gorgeous scenery in Ireland. Arrive in Westport. Maybe drop into Matt Molloy’s Pub after dinner. It is one of Ireland’s best pubs for traditional music sessions.

April 27 – This morning, experience the charm of Westport on a guided walking tour through one of Ireland’s most picturesque heritage towns. Discover its colorful streets, rich history, local traditions, and stories of the Wild Atlantic Way while enjoying the warm hospitality for which Westport is renowned. The remainder of the day is at leisure to browse the town’s unique shops, relax in one of its welcoming cafés, or explore the surrounding countryside on a scenic hike. This evening, enjoy Westport’s lively atmosphere by visiting one or more of its many traditional Irish pubs, where you can experience local music, great food, and genuine Irish hospitality.

April 28 – After a leisurely breakfast we will depart for the lovely town of Carrick-on-Shannon.
Enjoy a relaxing one-hour cruise on the River Shannon taking in the peaceful beauty of Ireland’s longest river. Sit back and admire the scenic countryside, abundant wildlife, and tranquil waterways while learning about the history and heritage of this beautiful region. Some time for lunch before continuing our journey to the lovely Cabra Castle. Some free time after check-in to explore the grounds or take a walk through Dún A Rí Forest Park at the edge of the Castle’s grounds.

April 29 – SLAN ABHAILE (SAFE TRAVELS HOME) I hope you have enjoyed your time in Ireland exploring Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way. Arrive at Dubln Airport with plenty of time to clear customs and immigration. There is a wonderful selection of duty-free shopping available at the airport for any last-minute gifts. (B)
