Experience the natural beauty that inspired some of the most creative minds in Hollywood to select Ireland as the back-drop to the most recent Star Wars movies.
Follow the creators of Star Wars to some of the most iconic spots in Ireland – Skellig Michael (the Jedi Temple) Loop Head Lighthouse, Mizen Head, and more
Day 1
Welcome to Ireland, after the typical overnight flight from the USA you will arrive in Shannon – while we suggest Shannon for this particular itinerary Dublin is a fine alternative with generally more air connections to the US. No matter where you arrive, you will pick up your Hertz car or be met by your driver at the airport.
First stop is the charming town of Killarney, famous for its natural beauty highlighted by idyllic lakes. Hop into a “jaunting cars” – a horse drawn carriage perfect for a tour around the magnificent Killarney National Park that lies adjacent to the town. Feeling a little more adventurous – if the weather is right we suggest you rent a bike for the same tour, and if you have the energy a kayak across the lake to Innisfallen Island and explore. Nothing is better than some fresh air to beat the jet lag you may be feeling.
Tonight you can walk through the town, and keep a listen for some traditional Irish music coming from one of the many pubs, then go inside for a pint and enjoy the “craic” (pronounced/sounds like “crack” and refers to friendly banter, entertainment and laughter)
Overnight is at the wonderful Great Southern Hotel, a family run property perfectly located within the town of Killarney where you are sure to feel the warm Irish welcome of “Cead Mile Failte” or A Hundred Thousand Welcomes.
Overnight: The Great Southern Hotel, breakfast included
A few more things to do in Killarney include
- Muckross House and Gardens
- Ross Castle
- The Meeting of the Waters – where Killarney’s 3 lakes come together
Day 2
Well rested today you set off on your epic adventure to experience the same places and view the same sights that captured the imagination of JJ Abrams and the other creators of Star Wars franchise. We recommend the first stop be the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Skellig Michael or perhaps you know it better as the Jedi Temple from The Force Awakens. Your tour should include a boat trip around the island, and for the more adventurous we suggest a “landing” tour that brings you onto the island, but it’s not for everyone – no restrooms and steep heights make this a bit of a challenge for some folks.
Back at the Great Southern, tonight may be a perfect night to drop by The Punchbowl bar and sample a flight of Irish Whiskey or ask one of the bar men to show you how to make an Irish Coffee.
Overnight: The Great Southern Hotel, breakfast included
Day 3
Still so much left to see, today we suggest a drive out to the end of the Dingle Peninsula to Sybil Head – the setting for the latest chapter in the Star Wars story. Along the way, take in a stop in the charming town of Dingle and the great views of the Blasket Islands – do you recognize them from the movies? Feeling a little hungry or thirsty, drop by O’Sullivan’s Pub – and ask for “whatever Daisy Ridley (or the character Rey in the movies) had” it’s said she frequented the pub while shooting nearby.
If you ever wanted to ride horseback on the beach, today would be a perfect time to try along Inch Beach. On your return to Killarney, we recommend taking the route through Connor Pass for some amazing photo opportunities then through the town of Tralee before retuning to your hotel.
Overnight: The Great Southern Hotel, breakfast included
Day 4
Continue to discover the dramatic landscape and natural beauty of the coastline that led the Lucasfilm folks to this amazing corner of the world. Today we suggest a trip out to Mizen Head in County Cork where you will discover even more of the locations for Star Wars. And be sure to take in Brow Head, featured in Episode VIII. And while you’re at it, be sure to gaze west, it was from here that Marconi sent the first trans-atlantic telegraph message.

Day 5
As your Irish vacations comes to a close, there may still be a few things on your to do list. Perhaps you want to uncover some of the mysteries of the bogs – and the Kerry Bog Museum is a perfect spot to do so. And to the North of Killarney is the gem of the Wild Atlantic Way at the Cliffs of Moher, a UNESCO Global GeoPark. And save time for one last Star Wars location at Loop Head, in fact the light house here was closed to the public during filming, but you can certainly make it part of your visit to this sight from Episode VIII
Tonight, you spend your final evening in the quaint village of Ennis at the wonderful Old Ground hotel. This is a perfect spot for last minute shopping and you are close to the airport at Shannon for your return trip.
Overnight: The Old Ground, breakfast included
Your Star Wars Ireland adventure has come to an end … want to see more? The cast and crew were also busy in the Northwest of Ireland at Malin Head in Donegal, or perhaps you want a few days to enjoy some of Ireland’s outstanding spa hotels and gourmet restaurants – there’s still so much left to see. We’re happy to extend your trip to take in all the places and things you want to experience, just let us know.
