Map of Northern Ireland
Strong connections across the Irish Sea, between Ireland and Scotland, are documented as far back as A.D. 297.  The result today is a large population of American Scots-Irish, many of whose ancestors may have originated or migrated to Northern Ireland.  Northern Ireland has a fascinating history spanning from Celtic and early Christian times through Industrial Belfast and the birth of Titanic, to the modern Troubles and peace process.

The birthplace of the Titanic, Belfast’s industrial heritage has shaped a city steeped in culture, portrayed at its best at the sensational, state of the art Titanic Belfast visitor attraction, as well as the Ulster Museum, City Hall, Ulster Folk and Transport Museum and the city’s many preserved historic buildings.

The Causeway Coastal Route covers eighty miles of coastline across two counties, beginning in Belfast in the south-east of Antrim and ending in the Walled City in County Derry, in the north-west.  The route is easy to follow and the highlights include Giant’s Causeway, Carrick-a-rede Rope Bridge, Dunluce Castle, Glenariff Forest Park, White Rocks Beach and Londonderry. These places always bring thrills and memorable experiences but don’t just stay on the route. There are seven scenic and interesting loops to make off the path which take in areas of outstanding natural beauty: Torr Head, Slemish Mountain, Rathlin Island, Benone Beach, Cushendun, and Binevenagh Mountain with remarkable views will inspire great memories.

Derry is the only remaining completely walled city in Ireland and one of the finest examples of walled cities in Europe. The Walls were built during the period 1613-1618 by the honorable, the Irish Society, as defenses for early seventeenth century settlers from England and Scotland.  A walk around the walls reveals a splendid city crammed full of history, heritage, interest and a vibrant cultural scene.
